Job summary

Matchtech is looking for a Lead Buyer - Construction to join their procurement team. This permanent role involves supporting procurement and commercial activities for complex construction and infrastructure projects in Barrow-in-Furness / Preston.

The successful candidate will engage with suppliers, manage tender processes, and ensure compliance with procurement governance. Understanding of construction contracts and eligibility for UK security clearance is essential.

Qualifications

• Eligibility to gain UK (SC) security clearance due to project requirements.
• Experience in a commercial, procurement, or supply chain capacity.
• Understanding of construction contracts.

Responsibilities

• Support delivery of procurement activities across construction and infrastructure works.
• Assist in end-to-end procurement including market engagement and tendering.
• Work closely with stakeholders to align procurement strategy.

Skills

Eligibility to gain UK (SC) security clearance

Experience within construction, infrastructure, or project-led environments

Understanding of standard construction contracts (NEC, JCT, FIDIC)

Knowledge of procurement and commercial principles

Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders

Strong analytical and commercial awareness

Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills
