What We Are Looking For

Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) is a defence engineering company based in the UK. We design, manufacture and support military vehicles used by the British Army and international customers.

The Director of Procurement will play a pivotal role in developing and executing procurement strategies that align with our organisational goals. This individual will oversee the procurement department, ensuring that all processes adhere to regulatory requirements and industry best practices while supporting the company’s commitment to excellence in defence solutions.

The responsibilities of the Director of Procurement include:


  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive procurement strategy that supports the company's objectives, optimises costs, and enhances supply chain efficiency.
  • Supplier Management: Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts, managing performance, and ensuring compliance with service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Team Development: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of procurement professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and high performance.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure procurement activities comply with relevant regulations and standards, including Defence Procurement Agency (DPA) guidelines, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies.
  • Budget Management: Oversee the procurement budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources and cost control measures are in place.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct market research and analysis to identify potential suppliers, trends, and innovations that can enhance procurement strategies and operational efficiency.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including engineering, manufacturing, and logistics, to ensure alignment of procurement activities with overall business objectives.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Prepare and present regular reports on procurement performance, cost savings, and supplier performance metrics to senior management.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute workforce planning strategies.


Corporate Governance and Professional Development:


  • Maintain currency of all regulatory and legislative requirements and how they may impact everyday business operations;
  • Undertake organisational governance with the board, ensuring that due diligence, legal regulatory and risk management responsibilities are proactively managed and met;
  • Undertake domestic and international business travel across the supply chain as required;


What Qualifications You Should Have


  • Qualifications in Procurement and / or current membership of the CIPS (Chartered institute of Procurement and Supply) preferred;
  • Significant strategic experience as a Director of Procurement within a large, complex multi-national organisation;
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with a strong team ethos, coupled with the ability to inspire others;


Core Competencies


  • An ability to interpret and understand both corporate and external regulations, policies and rules;
  • An ability to understand strategic and operational issues and risks;
  • Substantial knowledge of procurement practices and systems;
  • Substantial experience dealing with, and managing, large complex budgets
