Job summary

Essex County Council is recruiting a Procurement & Contracts Lawyer to support Harlow District Council on a full-time, temporary basis. Based on site for at least three days a week, you will provide commercial, legal advice and handle high-risk non-contentious procurement and contract matters.

The 3-month contract runs 37 hours per week, with a salary up to £33 per hour (PAYE £25.73, Umbrella £33.00). You will attend committees and advise senior officers, ensuring the Council's interests are

Qualifications

• Experience in procurement and contracts law.
• Ability to advise on complex non-contentious matters.
• Advocacy experience in courts or equivalent proceedings.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and assistance to the Council, its Chief and Senior Officers, Client Officers, Members and statutory directors.
• Undertake complex high-risk non-contentious matters and appear as Advocate before the Courts on behalf of the Council.
• Conduct non-contentious procurement, contract and companies matters and ancillary transactions.
• Attend and act as legal advisor to Committees, Sub Committees, Meetings and similar meetings as required.
• Keep informed of developments in areas of law relevant to the Council and advise appropriate officers and Members.
• Undertake statutory and delegated duties as required.
• Support the shaping and development of the delivery of Legal Services.
• Assist with processes required by LEXCEL accreditation.

Job Purpose:

To assist the Specialist Lawyer- Commercial and Property in the provision of innovative, commercially sound, marketable, efficient and effective legal services that ensures that the Council's interests and values are protected, advanced and enforced.

The Role:
