Job description

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Procurement & Commercial Lawyer to join our in-house Legal, Governance & Compliance Services Team. This is an opportunity to become part of a small, high-performing team, providing strategic legal advice across the full project lifecycle - from early development to the award of contracts. You will act as a senior advisor for the Combined Authority in relation to the in-house Legal Procurement & Commercial function and provide legal support in connection with all aspects of commercial contracts. This includes delivering robust, pragmatic support and advice on contract drafting, negotiation, and dispute resolution.

This is a Non-Police Personnel Vetting (Abbreviated) Level 2 post and is subject to vetting clearance.

The Role: Reporting into the Principal Lawyer (Procurement & Commercial), your key responsibilities will include:

    • Advise on the selected procurement strategy.
    • Prepare, negotiate, and produce contracts including call offs, order forms, standard and bespoke agreements.
    • Advise on Contracts Standing Orders, the application of the Public Contract Regulations and Procurement Act 2023, tender clarifications and procurement
    • Advise on novations, variations, extensions, contractual disputes and
    • Arrange corporate advice pertaining to procurement and litigation as
    • Work with other departments on shared ventures helping at all stages of the contract

About You: You will have the following key skills, attributes, education and experience:

  • You will be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister entitled to hold a current practising certificate or full CILEX (Fellowship).
  • Post-qualification practical experience, ideally in a similar role either in the private or public sector or in an in-house capacity.
  • Experience of advising on major projects or projects with a significant impact.
  • Sound judgement and outstanding analytical skills and experience of advising on and drafting complex and commercial documentation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in other related areas of the Legal Team if required.
