Are you looking to develop your career, while supporting the delivery of strategic priorities for Sheffield? We are recruiting a procurement professional with the right skills and values. If you are keen to work collaboratively, have strong attention to detail and take pride in delivering excellent outcomes, we welcome your application.

Joining a supportive, experienced and committed team, you will develop and broaden your experience, working with colleagues across one of the UK's largest local authorities.

Responsible for several categories of spend, you will work with internal clients to deliver best value, while maintaining compliance with procurement regulations and the Council's Constitution. Balancing a challenging financial landscape and the need to deliver the best outcomes for our citizens, while embedding the Procurement Act, present a demanding but rewarding opportunity for our Service, in which Procurement & Supply Chain Managers play a pivotal role.

With strong technical skills and a background in the procurement cycle, you will be skilled at working with a wide range of stakeholders to develop and deliver procurement and contract management strategies. Commercial acumen and the ability to negotiate, while seeing the bigger picture, are key qualities for success. You will also be an effective line manager, supporting others to develop their potential.

Our proposition to you:

  • We are a friendly, welcoming, approachable team
  • You will be supported by knowledgeable and experienced colleagues, who are engaged and constructive
  • We have a collective desire to make improvements and do a good job, while being realistic about challenges
  • You will have regular opportunities for meaningful discussion about current projects, with peers and colleagues at different levels, and partners such as Finance and Legal Services
  • There are opportunities for progression; you will work alongside peers and colleagues who have progressed through the Service and Council
  • Regular development is encouraged, from formal qualifications to e-learning, webinars, courses and peer support
  • We will trust and empower you to undertake your role, with support available when needed
  • We offer genuine flexible working and understand the need for work / life balance
  • Annual salary progression
  • Full-time employees work 37 hours per week, and we offer a generous holiday entitlement, rising to 31 days per year after 5 years' service.

Although we offer hybrid-working, the successful candidate will need to ensure they can attend in-person meetings in Sheffield, usually in our centrally based offices, when required. All meetings are during standard working hours. Site visits and / or face-to-face meetings with clients, suppliers or partners may also be required as part of the role.

Candidates must hold the appropriate right to work in the UK and will be required to supply evidence if invited to interview.
