Job description

The successful candidates will be joining the team at an exciting time. Procurement Services are at the heart of the ongoing economic and social development of the city and are involved with supporting plans for Very Light Rail (VLR) and the City Centre South development. Procurement Services are also integral to improving services for Adults and Children’s Social Care, Public Health, and Homelessness strategies. Procurement Services have a proven track record of developing staff and providing career pathways into procurement.

Job Role

Working under the supervision of the Procurement Systems and Contracts Manager, you will support the delivery of the Council’s strategy by providing advice, information, and support on procurement and commissioning matters to procurement colleagues, practitioners, and service managers.

The responsibilities of Procurement and Commissioning Assistants include:

  1. Managing procurement systems, including Business World (formerly Agresso) and Purchase Cards (Lloyds).
  2. Becoming a source of expertise on procurement systems and processes.
  3. Developing, implementing, and improving electronic procurement systems.
  4. Monitoring, controlling, and ensuring compliance with procurement processes.
  5. Developing and monitoring the application of legislation and procurement policies and procedures.
  6. Reporting on exceptions and risks.
  7. Training and sharing best practices across the authority to maximize procurement effectiveness.
  8. Supporting the Council's governance framework through the preparation and analysis of reports for the strategic procurement board and procurement panel.
  9. Publishing transparency information on the Council's website.
Candidate Profile

We are seeking motivated individuals who enjoy working as part of a flexible and dedicated team, with excellent analytical skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential.
