Overview

Process Safety Engineer - DSEAR Specialist. Location: Can be based anywhere across the UK. Salary: £58,000 - £60,000. Type: Full-Time | Permanent.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and support DSEAR risk assessments, zoning classification, and mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and maintain process safety documentation, including HAZOPs, LOPAs, DSEAR and SIL assessments.
  • Provide technical guidance on flammable substances, explosive atmospheres, and ignition source control (HAC).
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to ensure safe design and operation of plant equipment.
  • Support COMAH safety report updates and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Investigate process safety incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
  • Deliver training and awareness sessions on DSEAR and process safety best practices.
  • Stay up to date with relevant legislation, standards, and industry developments.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Safety, or related discipline.
  • Proven experience in a COMAH-regulated chemical or pharmaceutical environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of DSEAR regulations, risk assessment methodologies, and hazardous area classification.
  • Familiarity with ATEX, PSM, and other relevant standards.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience with process safety software/tools.
