Position: Process Safety Engineer

Location: Coventry, RI (ON-SITE)

Salary: $100,000-$150,000

The Pharmaron Manufacturing Services, located in Coventry, Rhode Island, is looking for a Process Safety Engineer to join our team! If you're craving a role that offers challenges, growth, and meaningful impact, then this is the opportunity you've been waiting for.


Position Objective:

The Process Safety Engineer in the Pharmaron Coventry Manufacturing Technology Team has the overall responsibility for the Coventry Process Safety Program. The role will foster a team-focused environment for project delivery, with a primary focus on process safety, ensuring that all affected groups have the appropriate level of input into process safety design and implementation. They will maintain the highest manufacturing standards in safety, health, and the protection of the environment, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and regulations.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain primary accountability for site process safety management (PSM) implementation.

  • Provide understanding of thermal hazard, combustible dust, and relief design analysis workflows.

  • Assist in training site personnel on execution of applicable workflows.

  • Coordinate execution of advanced safety testing using external Pharmaron resources and/or contracted services.

  • Manage performance of process safety assessments from kilo lab to production scale, reviewing results and making design recommendations to mitigate process safety risks.

  • Facilitate site process hazards analyses (PHAs) and drive completion of recommendations.

  • Review and approve process-related SOPs, batch records, and change controls.

  • Contribute knowledge and experience to pre-start-up safety reviews (PSSRs), ensuring process safety concerns have been adequately addressed.

  • Provide Process Engineering support, focusing on process safety impact relating to new manufacturing technologies and equipment installation.

  • Participate in Pharmaron process safety group meetings, sharing relevant situations and best practices.

  • Engage in Coventry safety committee meetings, providing routine interaction with all levels of facility personnel.

  • Stay up to date on process safety incidents and trends, communicating relevant details to site management.

  • Participate in external trainings to continuously improve process safety knowledge.

  • Maintain compliance with cGMPs, FDA, OSHA, and other regulatory bodies.


Qualifications & Experience:

  • B.S. degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field.

  • 3+ years of experience in process safety management associated with the manufacture of pharmaceutical ingredients or fine chemicals.

  • Working knowledge of process safety assessment workflows for batch chemical manufacturing processes.

  • Experience implementing OSHA Process Safety Management Standard and other relevant codes and regulations.

  • Ability to assess risks associated with industrial processes and implement mitigation measures.

  • Experience conducting safety audits to identify potential hazards and compliance issues.

  • Skilled in developing and implementing safety policies to promote a safety-first culture.

  • Ability to provide technical advice on process safety issues to stakeholders, including management, engineering, and operations teams.

  • Experience designing and delivering safety training programs for employees.

  • Ability to analyze incident reports and system failures to identify areas for improvement.

  • Stay updated on changing safety regulations and ensure organizational compliance.

  • Participate in the design and review of new equipment, materials, and processes to meet safety standards.

  • Collaborate with other engineers and professionals to enhance safety and efficiency of operations.
