Position Overview:
A leading consultancy is seeking a Process Safety Consultant to take ownership of hazard analysis studies (HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA), leading assessments, managing study close-outs, and supporting broader process safety initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring both technical expertise and leadership capabilities to drive risk reduction and ensure regulatory compliance across high-hazard industries.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead, facilitate, and participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) activities including HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA.
Oversee close-out of actions and recommendations; chair follow-up meetings where required.
Lead technical safety reviews and support creation of Basis of Safety documentation.
Apply ALARP principles and develop supporting risk calculations.
Develop and manage Functional Safety Management (FSM) plans in line with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.
Provide mentorship to junior safety engineers and conduct 6-monthly training and competence reviews.
Contribute to or lead development of internal process safety management frameworks.
Create and review proof test procedures for Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
Perform SIL verification and Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) as part of safety lifecycle assessments.
Key Requirements:
Degree in Chemical, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline.
Chartered status (or working towards) via recognised body (e.g. IChemE).
Minimum 5 years’ experience in process or functional safety roles across Energy, Oil & Gas, Hydrogen, Chemicals, or Industrial Gases sectors.
Certified Functional Safety Engineer (e.g. FS Engineer TÜV) preferred.
Proven experience leading safety studies and chairing HAZOP/LOPA sessions.
Expertise in industrial gas systems (e.g. Ammonia, Nitrogen, Hydrogen, Oxygen).
Familiarity with ATEX/DSEAR regulations and IEC 60079.
Knowledge of hazard/consequence modelling tools (e.g. Phast, Quadvent) and hazardous area classification.
