Job description

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Alpek Polyester UK Ltd. manufacturing shift team at Wilton as a Process Industry Manufacturing Technician Apprentice. The role involves working alongside experienced technicians, performing various operations duties to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the plant.

Working Hours

During Year 1, hours will vary but on average will be Monday – Friday, 9 am – 5 pm.

On site, 40 hours per week; annualised over a 12-hour shift pattern, covering 365 days p.a. Some overtime may be required at certain times.

Job Description

Cogent Skills is working with Alpek Polyester UK Ltd. to recruit two Apprentice Process Industry Manufacturing Technicians for its manufacturing operations on Teesside.

Under the direction of the Shift Manager, apprentices will work within the process operations team, performing various duties to ensure the safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient running of the plant.

Job Responsibilities

This is a hands-on role, with responsibilities including:

  • Working safely in a high-hazard environment, wearing safety equipment, and complying with all health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Working in varied conditions, inside and outside, on process plants or in control rooms.
  • Assisting in start-up, operation, and shutdown of plant systems.
  • Monitoring, inspecting, and controlling plant conditions to ensure optimal performance and compliance.
  • Inspecting, cleaning, and maintaining equipment per operational instructions.
  • Reporting or escalating issues when operating outside normal parameters.
  • Collaborating with engineering and maintenance teams for routine maintenance and testing.
  • Conducting handovers and completing process documentation.

Work involves 12-hour shifts on plants operating 365 days a year, post foundation training, with possible overtime.

Training To Be Delivered

Qualification: Process Industry Manufacturing Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard

City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Process Technology

Training Provider: Hartlepool College of Further Education

Delivery: 12 months at HCFE, including site placements, followed by 24 months onsite at Alpek Polyester, with ongoing support and assessments. Further study may continue through day release.

Future Prospects

Potential for permanent positions upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, as part of long-term talent development.

Additional Considerations

Travel to work locations required. Work hours may include night shifts and weekends. Pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening, is mandatory.
