Job summary

Anglian Water is recruiting a Process Engineer to contribute to the design and delivery of process solutions for AMP8 water projects. You will support senior engineers, produce design outputs, and ensure compliance with standards and project objectives.

You will work in a multidisciplinary team, applying process design principles, and help drive sustainable, safe, and efficient water infrastructure across our four business units. This role offers development and collaboration opportunities.

Qualifications

• Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Experience in the water sector or a related process-driven industry is preferred.
• Understanding of process design principles, standards, and environmental considerations.
• Experience producing or contributing to technical design deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of process design activities, ensuring safety, technical, and quality requirements.
• Prepare and contribute to design deliverables, including mass balances, hydraulic calculations, P&IDs, and PFDs.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support design reviews and feedback.
• Assist with design development tasks and resolve technical challenges.
• Ensure designs follow health, safety, and environmental standards, including DSEAR.
• Contribute to continuous improvement with innovative design approaches and digital tools.
• Engage with stakeholders and suppliers to progress design work and support carbon-reduction objectives.

As a Process Engineer within one of our four business units, you will contribute to the development and delivery of process designs for water and water recycling projects on AMP8. You’ll support senior engineers in producing design outputs and help ensure these meet required standards, specifications, and project objectives.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Support the delivery of process design activities, ensuring they meet safety, technical, and quality requirements.
• Prepare and contribute to design deliverables, including mass balances, hydraulic calculations, P&IDs, and process flow diagrams.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support design reviews and incorporate feedback.
• Assist with design development tasks, contributing to the resolution of technical challenges.
• Ensure designs follow relevant health, safety, and environmental standards, including hazardous area regulations (DSEAR).
• Contribute to continuous improvement by applying innovative design approaches and supporting digital tools.
• Support engagement with stakeholders and suppliers as required to progress design work.
• Promote sustainable design practices and support carbon‑reduction objectives across project delivery.

About You

We’re seeking a motivated and conscientious Process Engineer with a desire to develop their technical expertise. You will ideally have:

• A degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Some experience within the water sector or a related process‑driven industry.
• A good understanding of process design principles, standards, and environmental considerations.
• Experience producing or contributing to technical design deliverables.
• An interest in progressing towards chartership (support provided).
• Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental requirements within engineering projects.
• Strong communication and problem‑solving skills, with a collaborative and proactive approach.
• A genuine interest in sustainability and delivering environmentally responsible engineering solutions.

Place Based Thinking

The Place Based Thinking team delivers some of the largest and most complex projects across the @one Alliance. Made up of six Senior Project Manager teams, we oversee 19 catchments, covering key sites such as Whitlingham, Flag Fen, Great Billing, Cotton Valley, Bedford, Colchester, and Ipswich Cliff Quays. These projects involve managing all parts of the network from rising and gravity mains, pumping stations, high spilling overflows, and water recycling centres.

Water

The Water Business Unit provides strategic support across the clean water network, covering both system performance and infrastructure planning. We assess the future hydraulic state of the network in response to population growth and increased demand, support the design and delivery of capital and infrastructure schemes to ensure hydraulic resilience, and work with optimisation teams to enhance overall network efficiency.

Water Recycling (East and West)

Our Water Recycling Business Unit, split into East and West regions, is responsible for the collection, conveyance, and treatment of wastewater across an extensive network. We operate over 76,000 km of sewerage infrastructure and 1,163 treatment centres, ensuring safe and sustainable discharge to the environment while driving innovation and environmental performance.
