Job summary

Transport for London is seeking a Process Engineer in the London Underground Workshops Engineering team, focusing on electrical and electronics to deliver engineering solutions and support safe, reliable services for millions of commuters.

You will act as single point of contact for technical issues, manage BOMs, cost estimates, and SAP master data, and lead a team of engineers delivering multi-million pound projects with rigorous safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Strong numerical and analytical ability with good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word for complex documents and Word layouts.
  • Experience with Excel for data formatting and analysis; CAD knowledge is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engineering solutions and modifications into production processes (Rolling Stock, Signals & General Engineering).
  • Resolve technical queries with cross-functional teams and suppliers.
  • Lead a team of engineers providing technical support in workshop production areas.
  • Produce and oversee Work Instructions and Bills of Materials.
  • Create accurate cost estimates for activities based on specifications.

Key Accountabilities
  • Engineering Solution Delivery
    Ensure implementation of engineering specifications, changes and modifications into production processes covering Rolling Stock, Signals & General Engineering. Act as the single point of contact for technical issues.
  • Technical Query Resolution
    Manage and resolve technical queries related to production, project delivery, and material procurement through collaboration with Central Engineering, suppliers, and project teams.
  • Team Leadership
    Manage a team of engineers providing technical support to workshop production areas.
  • Documentation Management
    Produce and oversee the creation of essential documentation such as Work Instructions and Bills of Materials to support overhaul and repair activities.
  • Cost Estimation
    Produce detailed estimates for activities based on customer specifications, including labour hours and material costs for accurate budgeting.
  • Bill of Materials Development
    Develop Bills of Materials aligned with customer specifications, drawings, and LUL standards, working closely with engineering and suppliers.
  • SAP Master Data Maintenance
    Generate and maintain SAP master data to ensure accurate material control and procurement processes.
  • Project Delivery Oversight
    Manage engineering teams to deliver large-scale projects, including coordination of support engineers on multi-million-pound projects.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Skills
  • A high level of numerical and analytical ability is required along with well-developed communication, negotiating and inter-personal skills. [Essential]
  • Computer literate able to effectively use: [Essential]
  • Microsoft Word: Beyond basic text formatting, being able to manage complex layouts, and control large-scale documents.
  • Microsoft Excel: For formatting & manipulating of complex data
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
Knowledge
  • Degree/HND/HNC/Engineering Apprenticeship (or equivalent) in an applicable electrical/electronic/mechanical engineering subject is essential. [Essential]
  • A broad-based knowledge of general engineering principles. [Essential]
  • A good knowledge of LUL rolling stock and/or Signals equipment.
  • A good knowledge of CAD systems and engineering design principles and drawing standards as applied to LU design.
  • A good working knowledge of the health & safety at Work Act 1974.
Experience
  • A proven record of having managed engineering solutions and teams.
  • Demonstrated experience of implementing solutions to complex technical engineering issues across various engineering disciplines. [Essential]
  • Demonstrated experience working in a regulated health and safety critical environment.
