Job description

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Technical Quality Assurance team as a Process Engineer.

As a Central Process Engineer, you will liaise with Engineering, Quality, and Operational plants supporting Aircrete, Brick, and Concrete production. Your responsibilities include delivering process and innovation improvements in quality, delivery, sustainability, and cost.

You will act as the process improvement lead for resolving issues related to process, materials, and technical aspects. You will lead initiatives in cost savings, product development, sustainability, and process realization through new product development and innovation projects assigned by the Technical Operations Manager.

Your duties include but are not limited to:
  • Technical Operational Support and Guidance:
  • Practical experience in manufacturing technology within Aircrete, Brick, or Concrete production at Forterra sites.
  • Lead material development and optimization projects, including raw material changes, process optimization, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in problem-solving on-site/plant.
  • Experience in sustaining improvements through effective change management.
  • Address technical issues and facilitate their resolution.
  • Share knowledge across the site to ensure operators and maintenance understand their requirements in layman's terms.
  • Lead process engineering during new plant startups, supporting design, commissioning, and handover activities.
Process Engineering Development and Plant Optimization:
  • Conduct optimization trials to reduce material overage and maintain product quality and compliance.
  • Lead technical aspects of new product development projects, ensuring proper documentation and product integrity.
  • Drive process engineering improvements related to CAPEX, quality, innovation, and equipment.
  • Implement systems and technologies to replace paper-based systems, incorporating new technologies like AI and cameras.
  • Focus on reducing energy consumption, over-processing, and overproduction, with an emphasis on innovation.
Process Improvement, Sustainability & Innovation:
  • Maintain close collaboration with Quality and Engineering teams to ensure compliance and assurance.
  • Apply continuous improvement tools such as 5 Why, FMEA, and Cause and Effect analysis.
  • Manage and deliver process innovation projects through ICE ranking.
Mentorship and Development:
  • Mentor junior staff in material technology and technical training.
  • Support ongoing personal development and promote continuous improvement using WCM philosophies, tools, and techniques.
About You:
  • Ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and MS Teams.
  • Background in Material Science, Science Management, or Process Engineering (Bachelor's degree or relevant experience).
  • Preferred 10+ years of experience, with certifications like 6Sigma Green Belt advantageous.
