The Company

Prax Lindsey Oil Refinery, located in North Lincolnshire, is a key asset of the Prax Group, a British multinational energy conglomerate dealing in crude oil, petroleum products and biofuels and is the only British refiner remaining in the UK energy market.

The refinery processes up to 5.4 million tonnes of crude oil per year (up to 113,000 barrels a day) and incorporates some of the most advanced refining and conversion processes in Europe, supplying products by road, rail, sea and pipeline.

The Candidate

We are currently recruiting for a Process Engineer, responsible for providing technical support, process optimisation and performance improvements for their assigned refinery units to enhance safety, reliability, energy efficiency and profitability.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Technical Support: Deliver expert technical assistance to assigned production units to resolve operational issues and improve reliability, safety, and profitability.
  • Process Optimisation: Identify, define, and evaluate opportunities for process improvement, and support the execution of these initiatives.
  • Energy Management: Monitor and optimise energy and utility consumption; follow up on deviations and conduct studies for improvement.
  • Incident Investigation: Participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Model Maintenance & Improvement: Monitor and ensure accuracy of refinery unit process models; contribute to optimisation via advanced process control.
  • Project Support: Define, critically evaluate and support process design modifications, ensuring alignment with the management of change process, and lead commissioning activities.
  • Catalyst and Additive Management: Specify, select, and reassess chemical additives and catalysts; liaise with suppliers and evaluate product performance ensuring compliance with safe operating limits.
  • Environmental Compliance: Support environmental performance reporting and manage the follow-up of any limit exceedances.
  • Process Safety: Define Safe Operating Limits for process units and ensure compliance, monitoring, and reporting. Actively participate in HAZOPs, LOPAs and risk assessments.
  • Start-ups & Turnarounds: Provide support during unit start-up, shutdown, catalyst changes, and planned maintenance turnarounds.
  • Technical Documentation: Maintain and update technical site documentation, including Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Interface Management: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication of technical data and insights.
  • Equipment Inspection: Perform equipment inspections, providing condition reports, and manage required remediation actions.
  • Team Development: Mentor and support the development of junior Process Engineers and industrial placement students.

Qualifications/Experience Required

  • Degree in Chemical or Process Engineering; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with process simulation software like PRO II or Aspen HYSYS.
  • Formal training in Hazard & Operability Studies (HAZOP), Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) is preferred. Minimum of 2 years' experience in Process Engineering, Operations, or Projects within a relevant industrial setting.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and technical skills.
  • Proven ability to operate within a cross-functional, team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to present data effectively to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
