Are You Ready to Make It Happen at Mondelēz International?

Join our Mission to Lead the Future of Snacking. Make It With Pride.

You play an important role in the department, maintaining systems and performing tasks that support our continuous improvement (CI) processes and culture. You help with data collection, ensure its accuracy, promote CI progress, and keep track of the department KPI scorecards.

This is a key role in implementing Capital Projects and providing technical & engineering support on the Chirk site (and across the UK chocolate network). Responsibilities include investigation, design, contractor management, and engineering project management (including cost and programme management). You will ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards during project development, execution, and commissioning, and after handover to production. Acting as project leader, you will manage team members or contractors (e.g., process, mechanical, electrical, controls) and work closely with the Business Development Manager and Site Leadership Team to align engineering solutions with business needs and long-term site plans.

This role requires a broad range of specialist project management and engineering skills. You will directly manage several projects, with values up to £500K.

How you will contribute

  • Develop designs for new NPD and factory development projects, collaborating with Manufacturing and BD&E as needed.
  • Create detailed engineering designs and specifications for authorized Capital projects, ensuring safety, quality, hygiene, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Reverse engineer systems when information is lacking.
  • Challenge existing practices and seek opportunities to improve productivity, safety, and quality.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of cocoa bean processing, including beverage powder manufacture, packing, and services, keeping up with external supplier developments.
  • Provide technical and engineering support to enhance the site’s commercial and operational performance.
  • Prepare and review tender packages, evaluate returns, conduct peer reviews, and negotiate terms.
  • Supervise and manage contractors and on-site workers.
  • Ensure plant commissioning meets quality and output targets within timelines and standards.
  • Recommend solutions to reduce operating costs, improve product quality, and enhance safety.
  • Manage project costs using ERP tools (SAP and Coupa) and forecast capital expenditures.
  • Provide coaching and support to BD&E team members, technical personnel, and possibly wider organization.

Support and share best practices in GMP and Sanitary design standards across sites, developing the MEU network's expertise.

What you will bring

A desire to develop your career alongside the following experience and knowledge:

  • Ability to motivate and develop onsite personnel and communicate effectively across management levels and functions.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage your own time and priorities.
  • Experience in high-volume manufacturing, preferably in food, beverages, or pharmaceuticals.
  • Experience with Milk Evaporators, CIP systems, and milk processing is advantageous.
  • Proven track record in process improvement practices.
  • Experience delivering projects in high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Continuous professional development.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, scheduling tools, Microsoft Office, SAP, PLC software (preferably Rockwell), and SCADA screens.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Qualification Requirements

The following qualifications are required:

  • BEng/MEng in Chemical or Process Engineering
  • Chartered status (preferred)
