Our Environment Business

Following various acquisitions, we are now the largest Tier Contractor operating in the UK Water / Environment sector with a long-term portfolio trading £million a year. As part of our Source to Sea Strategy, we have consolidated all aspects of Engineering Design under one Business Unit, expanding to provide in-house design support to our various Regional Business Units across the UK.

Purpose Of The Role

As a Design Engineer, you will be an important member of the Engineering Design Team, working with the Design Manager(s) and Design Leads to deliver high-quality designs in accordance with GT processes and in compliance with BMS and H&S Regulations. This technical role involves direct project engagement, requiring proficiency in technical design delivery within the water and wastewater industry. The Design Engineer may have line management responsibilities for graduate/assistant engineers if required.

You will assist with innovations, fulfill engineering governance requirements, ensure design integration with other disciplines, provide technical support to procurement activities, and support site activities as needed. You will also contribute to the development of graduate/assistant engineers in the discipline.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure technical compliance and quality of design outputs.
  • Assist project teams in seeking optimal, cost-effective solutions.
  • Adhere to procedural governance.
  • Ensure designs meet client specifications and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation.
  • Address technical problems throughout the project lifecycle, managing risks and opportunities.
  • Support pre-contract design activities as required.
  • Work towards accreditation with professional bodies (e.g., IChemE).

Person Specification:

  • Proficient in liaising with clients and supply chain for process solutions.
  • Skilled in Process Calculations, Mass Balances, Hydraulic Calculations.
  • Experienced in preparing Process Block Diagrams, PFDs, P&IDs.
  • Capable of developing Process Control Philosophies and Commissioning Plans.
  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience of + years in Water and Wastewater industries.
  • Chartered or member of professional engineering body (preferable).
  • Experience in contracting or consulting with commercial awareness.
