Job summary

Matchtech is seeking a Process Commissioning Manager for the Water sector. The role is flexible with hybrid working, ideally around the North West, Midlands or Yorkshire.

You will lead the development of commissioning standards, act as the technical authority, and drive whole‑life performance from concept through to operation. You will shape the process commissioning strategy, define systems and safe methods of work, and collaborate with engineers and regulators to ensure commissioning

Qualifications

• Experience in process commissioning within the water or wastewater sector.
• Full lifecycle understanding from concept to operational readiness.
• Relevant water and safety qualifications desirable (e.g., IOSH/SMSTS) may be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a business-wide process commissioning strategy for non-infrastructure projects.
• Define and own company process commissioning systems, standards, templates and safe systems of work.
• Act as technical authority for process commissioning and provide escalation support for complex issues.
• Lead commissioning planning from early design stages to influence buildability and operability.
• Oversee water quality compliance, sampling strategies and regulatory readiness.
• Collaborate with design teams to ensure commissioning‑readiness and compliance.
• Interface with clients, regulators, operational teams and stakeholders as senior commissioning lead.
• Support bids, early contractor involvement and framework mobilisation with commissioning input.
• Ensure commissioning documentation is robust, auditable and compliant.

Process Commissioning Manager – Water Sector

My Client is recruiting for a Process Commissioning Manager in the Water Sector. Location - Flexible with Hybrid working ideally around the North West, Midlands or Yorkshire areas.

Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the Process Commissioning Manager will develop the Company's process and commissioning systems from the ground up, setting strategy, standards and safe systems of work that support our frameworks, projects and future growth.

The role goes beyond project delivery. It provides long term technical leadership for process commissioning, develops our next generation of engineers, and ensures commissioning excellence underpins the full project lifecycle - from early concept and design through construction, commissioning, handover and operational readiness.

What will your day look like…

• Develop and implement a business wide process commissioning strategy for non infrastructure projects, aligned to Company values, safety culture and client expectations.
• Define and own Company process commissioning systems, standards, templates and safe systems of work.
• Act as the technical authority for process commissioning, providing assurance and escalation support for complex technical or water quality issues.
• Lead commissioning planning from early design stages, influencing buildability, operability, risk reduction and whole life performance.
• Oversee water quality compliance, sampling strategies, performance testing and regulatory readiness.
• Work closely with the Principal Process Engineer and design teams to ensure design intent is commissionable, operable and compliant with water/wastewater quality standards.
• Act as the senior commissioning interface with clients, regulators, operational teams and internal stakeholders.
• Support bids, early contractor involvement and framework mobilisation with commissioning strategy and resourcing input.
• Ensure commissioning documentation and evidence are robust, auditable and compliant with client and regulatory requirements.

Experience and Qualifications:

• Experience in process commissioning within the water or wastewater sector, ideally in non infrastructure or complex treatment environments.
• Strong understanding of the full project lifecycle - from concept and design through delivery, commissioning and operational readiness.
• Deep technical knowledge of treatment processes, water quality standards, sampling regimes, chemical dosing, hydraulics and performance optimisation.
• Proven ability to work autonomously, set direction and build systems where none previously existed.
• Experience developing people, training frameworks or technical capability within an engineering or commissioning environment.
• Degree (or equivalent experience) in Process, Chemical, Environmental, Biochemical or related engineering discipline.
• Relevant water and safety qualifications (e.g., Water Hygiene, IOSH/SMSTS) are desirable.
