Job description

Astute's Power Team is partnered with a market-leading company, within the Power Generation sector, to recruit for a Process/Site Chemist to work across their fleet of CCGT Power Stations and this role will be based out of their site in Rochester, Kent.

The vital Process/Site Chemist role comes with a basic salary of £46,000 - £49,552 + c.£2,000 South East allowance + up to 20% bonus + private medical excellent benefits package.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the Lead Chemist, you will be responsible for:

  1. Support the fleet of CCGT Power Stations and associated activities within the company's portfolio
  2. Advise operations teams on the chemical process to ensure assets operate safely, efficiently and cost-effectively
  3. Actively troubleshoot issues in water treatment, cycle chemistry, and cooling water systems
  4. Offer guidance on preservation strategies to prevent corrosion in critical equipment
  5. Supporting with inspections to assess the effectiveness of water-steam cycle chemical dosing strategies
  6. Provide expertise on safety matters such as chemical handling, COSHH, compliance, confined space safety, and emergency response
  7. Evaluate and improve chemistry procedures to align with industry best practices
  8. Travel across to other sites at short notice when required

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  1. A formal qualification such as Degree, HND, HNC in a chemistry related subject, or equivalent

Personal skills, prior experience and knowledge

The Process/Site Chemist role would suit someone who has:

  1. Practical field experience in the monitoring of water chemistry including good laboratory technique and practice
  2. Hands-on experience with process plant knowledge of instrumentation and process chemistry
  3. Detailed knowledge of the standards, codes and methods for water treatment systems
  4. Experience in plant technical reviews and development of inspection scopes for plant outages
  5. Prior experience liaising with engineering consultants, water treatment specialists, chemical supply companies and statutory inspection companies

A starting basic salary of between £46,000 - £49,552 (depending on experience)
£2,100 south east location allowance
Up to 20% bonus
