Job summary

Nicholas Associates is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead and support health, safety and environmental standards across our construction operations in the East Midlands. The role suits a practical HS&E professional able to engage with people at all levels.

Senior H&S advisor candidates aiming for management will also be considered; you will work closely with senior management, Contracts Managers and site teams to drive a proactive safety culture on site.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH NGC or equivalent required for role.
• Construction-related health & safety qualification preferred.
• Professional membership (IOSH) or equivalent strongly preferred.
• Proven HS&E experience in construction, civil engineering or groundworks.
• Solid knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and UK HS&E legislation.
• Experience conducting site audits and inspections.
• Experience preparing and reviewing RAMS.
• Ability to investigate incidents and accidents and implement corrective actions.
• Strong communication, organisational and report-writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day health and safety management across construction operations.
• Provide competent HS&E advice to directors, managers, supervisors and site teams.
• Conduct planned and unplanned site inspections, audits and compliance reviews.
• Prepare, review and approve RAMS and Construction Phase Plans.
• Support HS&E requirements of new projects from mobilisation to completion.
• Monitor legislation compliance and Integrated Management System adherence.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near-misses, including RIDDOR support.
• Analyze HS&E performance data and identify trends for preventative action.
• Develop toolbox talks, briefings and safety initiatives.
• Monitor plant, equipment, temporary works, COSHH, PPE and site controls.
• Support environmental, occupational health and sustainability requirements.
• Collaborate with Training to identify competency needs.
• Support external audits, client reviews and maintain accreditations.
• Produce clear HS&E reports and report to senior management.
• Lead by example to promote a proactive safety culture.
