Overview

I\'m recruiting on behalf of a Local Authority searching for a Private Sector Housing Officer. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dedicated public sector government team on a short-term contract where your expertise will help improve housing standards and support vulnerable residents to live independently in their homes.

Key notes: Initial 3-month contract (possible extension). 37hpw | £26.44ph - £33.86ph. 3 days in office (minimum).

The role

As a Private Sector Housing Officer, you will:

  • Inspect and assess private rented properties under the Housing Act 2004.
  • Process applications for Disabled Facilities Grants and Minor Adaptations.
  • Carry out property licensing inspections, assess management standards, and ensure compliance.
  • Draft enforcement notices, schedules of work, and prepare cases for tribunal or court when required.
  • Provide advice and support to landlords, residents, and partner organisations.
  • Manage a varied caseload, delivering high-quality service within tight timescales.
What we\'re looking for
  • Degree or diploma in Environmental Health (or equivalent housing qualification).
  • HHSRS assessor training (essential).
  • Previous experience in housing inspections, enforcement, or grant/adaptations work.
  • Strong knowledge of housing legislation, including the Housing Act 2004 and property licensing.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and case management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively within a fast-paced environment.
