Total Package: £62,500 (London) £57,500 (East Kilbride)

Context

We lead the UK’s diplomatic, development and consular work around the world. We employ around 17,000 staff in our global network of 281 offices worldwide. Our UK-based staff work in King Charles Street in London, Abercrombie House in East Kilbride and in Milton Keynes.

Your role with us

Private Sector Development is an important part of our dynamic and modernising approach to economic development and growth enhancement. We work on some of the most challenging subjects of our times, including mobilising finance for development, spurring economic growth, building global supply chains, supporting trade and investment, and creating quality jobs, goods and services. When you join us in this significant role you will work on one or more of our policy areas, providing technical advice on areas such as climate or nature finance, capital market development, commercial agriculture or infrastructure financing. Building fruitful relationships with key internal and external stakeholders will be key to your success, for example working with other government departments, multilateral organisations, development finance institutions, partner governments and the private sector.

You will have a number of additional responsibilities – these may include advising or leading on one of our Official Development Assistance spending programmes, focusing on a sector, region or policy area. Committed to building your knowledge and expertise, and ready to innovate and test new approaches to our work, we will expect you to apply your skills and expertise to a wide range of themes and geographies, and adapt to different circumstances, risks and opportunities. You will also spend some of your time supporting our wider private sector development objectives, work that might involve supporting another country programme by contributing to an annual review or developing a training product.

Who we’re looking for

To be a success in this role you should have well developed experience working in the private sector, international development or a relevant climate-finance related field. You should hold a degree or similar professional qualification relating to Economics, Finance, Business, Development or Accounting. You should also be committed to the international development agenda and the role of the private sector in alleviating poverty and driving growth, and be capable of thinking strategically about wider economic, social, political, environmental and technological developments while maintaining the organisational priorities in your work.

An inspirational leader with excellent team-working skills, you will possess the ability to form and maintain highly effective relationships with colleagues and other stakeholders to deliver against objectives. You should also have superb communication skills and be capable of providing clear, concise and objective written and verbal briefings and advice to your senior colleagues and contacts.

We encourage applications from all communities, so that we reflect the very best of 21st century Britain. Everyone here gets the support to develop their skills and capabilities as well as benefits that help to make the most of life in and out of work, including a Civil Service pension.

Use your talent and experience to shape our nation’s future, and deliver tangible improvements to millions of lives, including your own.
