A North London Local Authority is seeking an experienced Private Housing Group Manager to lead their Private Sector Housing and Enforcement service on an interim basis.
This pivotal role supports the council’s commitment to ensure everyone in the borough has a safe, decent, and genuinely affordable place to call home by 2030, with a strong focus on standing up for private renters and raising standards across the private rented sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic leadership of private sector housing enforcement and regulation
- Drive improvement in property management standards through the implementation and monitoring of:
- Mandatory, Additional, and Selective Licensing Schemes for both HMOs and single occupancy dwellings
- Oversee programmes aimed at:
Lead and secure externally funded housing initiatives and programmes
- Bringing empty homes back into use
- Supporting vulnerable private tenants to achieve homes in good repair
- Delivering disabled facilities grants and other housing-related financial assistance

- Manage the Council’s response to tall building safety in privately owned residential blocks
- Oversee multiple multidisciplinary teams and complex service projects aligned with the Council’s housing goals
About You:
- Proven senior leadership experience in private housing services within a local authority setting
- In-depth knowledge of housing regulation, enforcement, and licensing frameworks
- Strong track record of managing large teams, housing improvement programmes, and inter-agency projects
- Experience working with vulnerable residents, housing grants, and building safety compliance is essential
