Pertemps Plymouth is seeking an Assistant Gardener for a private estate in Newton Ferrers. This permanent, hands-on role involves maintaining gardens and grounds, supporting seasonal projects, and caring for a small collection of animals.

You will work with a small, friendly team on a beautiful private estate and contribute to daily estate upkeep. The role rewards practical gardening skills, flexibility, and a willingness to learn, with a salary of £26,000-£27,000 depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Previous gardening/grounds experience is advantageous.
• Confident in using outdoor power tools and gardening equipment.
• Able to work outdoors in all seasons.
• Flexible and willing to handle a range of tasks as priorities change.
• Able to work independently and as part of a close-knit team.
• Chainsaw certification and horticultural qualifications would be beneficial but are not essential.
• Full UK driving licence is required due to rural location.

Responsibilities

• Day-to-day garden maintenance including planting, propagation, weeding, pruning and watering.
• Maintain gardens and grounds using equipment such as strimmers, hedge cutters and ride-on mowers.
• Assist with seasonal planting and development of the estate's gardens and outdoor spaces.
• Daily care and welfare of alpacas, chickens and other livestock.
• Support general estate maintenance tasks including fencing, repairs and seasonal projects.
• Ensure all work is carried out safely and to a high standard.
