Qualifications

  • 5+ PQE or junior with solid experience as a Paralegal in trusts.
  • Strong understanding of compliance and tax requirements for trusts.

Job description

Would you like to be a part of a highly regarded, specialist Trusts team in a leading regional law firm?

Trusts Solicitor – Suffolk with hybrid working

Client

A full-service regional law firm with a Legal 500 Tier 1 Private Client Team.

Role

  • Work collaboratively with the Private Client lawyers and the Legal Trust Corporation directors.
  • Administer a portfolio of trusts for longstanding clients including annual accounts and tax returns.
  • Legal drafting of documents in relation to:
    • retirement and appointments of Trustees.
    • advances to beneficiaries.
    • winding up of trusts.
  • Preparation and submission of the annual declarations on the Trust Registration Service.
  • Preparation and submission of FATCA and CRS returns, where necessary.
  • Hosting the annual Trustees Meeting to review the trust investments with the IFA and Trustees.
  • Preparation of the inheritance tax forms and calculations for all Relevant Property Trusts.
  • Undertaking the day-to-day administration of the trusts to include talking to beneficiaries and handling their requests for financial support.

You

  • Ideally 5+ PQE or more junior with solid experience as a Paralegal in this field.
  • A basic understanding of Personal Tax Returns.
  • Inheritance tax, capital gains tax and CGT 60-day knowledge.
  • Experience of preparing trust accounts and tax returns.
  • Experience of dealing with professional intermediaries, trustees and beneficiaries.
  • Clear understanding of the compliance requirements for trusts.
  • Experience of liaising with HMRC as required, on behalf of trustees and beneficiaries.
  • Strong relationship building experience in order to build and maintain relationships with trustees and beneficiaries.
  • Willingness to attend business development activities on behalf of the team and the firm.
  • Ideally you will be STEP qualified, but this is not essential.
