Clayton Legal is seeking a Private Client Solicitor for its Basildon office. You will manage your own caseload and advise on wills, probate and estate planning, securing strong client relationships.

The opportunity

A well-established Legal 500-ranked law firm with a strong presence across Essex is looking to appoint an experienced Private Client Solicitor to join its established team in Basildon.

The firm has been established for over 40 years and has around 100 staff across multiple Essex offices. Its Private Client practice is ranked Tier 2 in the Legal 500 for Personal Tax, Trusts & Probate, with particular expertise across estate administration, succession planning, wills, trusts and Court of Protection matters.

This is an excellent opportunity for a confident solicitor, ideally with 3+ years’ PQE, to take on a senior position within a respected and growing Private Client department. You will manage your own caseload, build strong client relationships and have the opportunity to develop your career within a highly regarded regional practice.

Key responsibilities

• Managing a varied caseload of private client matters independently.
• Advising clients on wills, estate planning, probate, estate administration, lasting powers of attorney and trusts.
• Handling more complex private client matters with appropriate support where required.
• Drafting and reviewing technically accurate legal documents and correspondence.
• Building and maintaining strong, long-term client relationships.
• Ensuring files are maintained to a high standard and in accordance with regulatory and internal requirements.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues across the wider firm.
• Supporting junior members of the team and contributing to the development of the department.
• Taking an active role in business development and networking opportunities.

About you

You will be a qualified solicitor with ideally 3+ years’ PQE and solid experience in private client law.

You should have a strong working knowledge of wills, probate, estate administration, trusts and lasting powers of attorney, with the confidence to manage your own caseload and advise clients with a high degree of independence.

The ideal candidate will be technically strong, commercially aware and client-focused, with excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to their work.
