Job description

Senior Associate - Succession & Tax (Private Wealth)
Location: Exeter
Contract: Permanent
Working pattern: Full-time, part-time or flexible

Join a leading Private Wealth team and take your trust and tax career to the next level.

A standout opportunity has arisen for a Senior Associate to join a highly regarded Succession & Tax team in Exeter. Known for working with high-net-worth individuals, trustees, entrepreneurs and international families, this is a key position within a fast-growing private wealth practice focused on UK and international trust structuring, tax planning and multi-jurisdictional advice.

If you're looking for greater autonomy, a clear progression path, and the chance to work on complex, high-value matters in a collaborative and modern law firm, this role is worth your attention.

The Role

You'll advise on all aspects of the lifecycle of UK and offshore trusts - from creation and structuring through to administration, compliance, and reorganisation. Your work will span complex estate planning, cross-border tax issues, and technical guidance to trustees, family offices and high-net-worth individuals.

This is a senior role that blends high-level client advisory with strategic input into the future of the practice. You'll play an important part in shaping the team's continued growth across the South West, with the opportunity to mentor junior colleagues, lead client relationships, and contribute to the broader development of the private wealth offering.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll advise on sophisticated wealth structuring, succession planning and trust administration. The role includes multi-jurisdictional estate matters and tax planning for UK residents and international clients. You'll regularly liaise with beneficiaries, trustees and advisors both in the UK and abroad, providing commercially attuned and technically precise advice.

There is significant scope to build long-term client relationships and to collaborate with colleagues across disciplines - particularly with corporate, real estate and family teams to provide holistic support to entrepreneurial and ultra-high-net-worth clients.

What You'll Bring

  • A minimum of 5 years' PQE with a strong focus on trusts, tax and private wealth
  • Experience of UK and offshore trust structures, wealth preservation and tax-efficient succession planning
  • STEP qualified or working towards the qualification
  • Strong technical knowledge and a solutions-led approach
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build lasting, trusted relationships
  • A collaborative mindset and ambition to contribute to team growth and strategy

Why This Role?

The Exeter office is central to the firm's private wealth expansion strategy, making this a key time to join and influence future direction. With a growing client base, strong internal support and a firm-wide commitment to development, this role offers meaningful progression in a firm that's ambitious, inclusive, and focused on long-term relationships.

What's On Offer

In return, you'll receive a competitive salary, performance-related bonus, and access to a modern benefits package that includes:

  • Private medical cover
  • Enhanced parental leave
  • Mental health and wellbeing support
  • Flexible and hybrid working tailored to you
  • A clear and transparent career progression framework

This is more than just a legal role - it's a chance to be part of a forward-thinking private wealth team where you'll work on exceptional matters, with people who care about doing things differently.
