Job description

Private Client Solicitor/FCILEX | Somerset | Legal 500 | Non-corporate Environment | Achievable Targets

A top ranked Legal 500 firm with a strong regional profile across the Southwest is looking to add an experienced Private Client Lawyerto join its busy team, taking over an existing caseload.

The Private Client team comprises approximately 20 fee-earners spread across four offices, supported by paralegals and in-house financial planners. Led by a STEP-qualified partner and a dedicated partner specialising in tax & trusts, the department delivers a comprehensive range of services including wills, complex estates, trust management, tax mitigation, succession planning, LPA and contentious trust work. The team recently strengthened by promoting a second partner from within (private client specialist) and adding several associates and trainees to support its growing caseload.

You will manage a varied caseload of wills, trusts, probate, estate administration and tax planning matters, regularly advising individuals, families and agricultural clients.

Candidates should have solid technical knowledge and commercial awareness in private client law, ideally with around 2-4 years’ PQE (or comparable experience). Proven ability to manage cases autonomously, develop client relationships, contribute to business development and mentor junior staff (including trainees) will be key. Experience with complex and high-value estates, cross-border trusts and contentious matters would be advantageous.

The firm promotes a culture that combines the strengths of a larger practice (80staff, 11 partners) with the personable, flexible environment of a smaller firm.

The firm offers a competitive package including 33days’ holiday, private healthcare, life assurance, pension, birthday leave, flexibility over working arrangements, localparking, plus opportunities for community engagement and wellbeing initiatives. A clear career development framework supports progression into senior and partner-level roles.
