Job description

Overall purpose of role

Private Banking offers bespoke banking and investment solutions to high net worth (HNW) and ultra high net worth (UHNW) individuals & Family Offices across the globe. This role focuses on clients across the Midlands in the UK, providing a comprehensive range of investment advice across all asset classes, wealth structuring advice, and banking services.

Key Accountabilities

  • Originate new business by identifying, developing, and securing private banking relationships through personal and client referrals, Barclays Group internal networks, and corporate and investment banking sources.
  • Work towards achieving personal objectives and team targets related to:
  • New clients
  • Assets under management
  • Revenues
  • Maintain high standards of client service and delivery.
  • Act as the primary contact for banking products, credit advice, and client queries.
  • Provide high-quality, bespoke advice, maximizing value for clients and negotiating optimal commercial outcomes.
  • Serve as the key interface between clients and other parts of Barclays, including Wealth Advisory, Discretionary Portfolio Management, Investment Advisory, Global Investment & Solutions, Investment Bank, and Corporate Bank.

Locations: Birmingham, Northampton, or Milton Keynes.

  • Offer clients world-class financial solutions.
  • Engage in discussions about markets, their issues, and opportunities with clients.
  • Utilize the banker toolset, systems, and platforms effectively, challenging standards to improve quality.
  • Engage with digital technologies, products, and solutions relevant to Wealth, enhancing client service.

Purpose of the role

Establish and nurture profitable partnerships with corporate and individual clients, acting as a bridge between the bank’s offerings and client needs for mutual benefit and long-term success.

Accountabilities

  • Manage client relationships by understanding their financial goals, challenges, and risk tolerance, analyzing data from portfolios and cash flows to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Research industry trends, regulatory landscapes, and competitive environments to inform strategic advice.
  • Design customized solutions using a range of products and services from the bank’s portfolio.
  • Communicate the value of proposed solutions, justify recommendations, and negotiate terms beneficial to both client and bank.
  • Provide guidance on financial decisions, investment advice, risk management, wealth strategies, and market updates.
  • Assess and mitigate financial, legal, and operational risks associated with client relationships.
  • Document all interactions, transactions, and agreements for transparency and audit purposes.
  • Monitor client satisfaction and revenue metrics to evaluate relationship management effectiveness.

Director Expectations

  • Manage a business function, contributing to strategic initiatives, and influencing policies and procedures.
  • Lead a large team or manage organization-wide projects, coaching less experienced staff and providing strategic insights for long-term profitability and risk management.
  • Advise senior management and committees, shaping decisions beyond the immediate function.
  • Manage resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for significant sub-functions.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies, and influence external regulatory and advocacy groups when appropriate.
  • Maintain comprehensive industry knowledge and stay updated on external developments.
  • Use analytical skills to solve complex problems and design solutions.
  • Make significant strategic decisions within their area, influence stakeholders, and act as a principal contact for key clients and partners.
  • Represent the function and business division as a spokesperson.
