Job description

Do you enjoy cleaning and take great pride in your work?

If so, come and work for Eton College and join like-minded colleagues within our friendly community. You’ll be busy, the role will be varied, and you’ll be working in the beautiful historic buildings within the College, providing a cleaning service in the House Master's and Dame's private accommodation, which is located across different floors, accessible by stairs.

The ideal candidate will enjoy working as part of a team who ensure our premises are cleaned to the highest possible standards. You will understand the importance of hygiene and how your work impacts pupils who are away from home. All staff at Eton have a responsibility to act in the pupils’ best interests.

Two positions are available on a term-time basis, working the following shift patterns:

  1. Monday 9.30-13.00
    Tuesday 9.30-13.00
    Thursday 9.30-12.30
    Friday 9.30-13.00
  2. Monday 9.00-13.00
    Tuesday 9.00-12.00
    Thursday 9.00-11.00
    Friday 9.00-13.00

Previous experience in a similar role is desirable, but if you are keen to learn and have a positive ‘can do’ attitude, we want to hear from you!

Main Duties

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Cleaning duties of House Master’s and Dame’s private accommodation (may include ironing), such as sweeping, vacuuming, laundry, polishing, dusting, and cleaning bedrooms, toilets, bathrooms, and shower areas.
  • Answering the door in the House Master’s absence.
  • Undertaking training in cleaning as directed.
  • Attending meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Any other duties reasonably requested.

All employees are also expected to:

  • Understand safeguarding procedures, as all positions at Eton are ‘regulated activity’
  • Commit to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, including completing training and reading updates
  • Comply with confidentiality procedures and legislation
  • Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion
The Ideal Candidate

If you:

  • Take pride in your work and pay attention to detail
  • Have experience in cleaning, serving, or housekeeping (not essential but preferred)
  • Understand the impact of your work on pupils
  • Have a flexible approach and positive attitude
  • Enjoy teamwork and collaboration

Working Pattern:

  • You will work 40.6 weeks per year, paid over 12 months
  • You are entitled to 5.6 weeks of holiday
