Job summary

Academics is recruiting a Multi-Skills Lecturer for a prison education setting at HMP Maidstone to deliver practical vocational training. The role covers Painting & Decorating, Tiling and Plastering for adult learners, with emphasis on employability and progression.

Previous prison education experience is desirable but not essential. You will work with education and prison staff to support learner outcomes and progression in a supportive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Strong practical experience in Painting & Decorating, Tiling and/or Plastering.
• Experience delivering teaching, training or vocational education.
• A relevant construction or trade qualification.
• A recognised teaching qualification, or willingness to work towards one.
• Experience working with or supporting adult learners.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A patient, professional and encouraging approach.
• The ability to deliver engaging practical and theory-based sessions.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging and practical vocational sessions to adult learners.
• Teach across Painting & Decorating, Tiling and Plastering.
• Plan and deliver high-quality lessons in line with the curriculum.
• Develop learners' practical construction and maintenance skills.
• Assess learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
• Support learners working towards relevant vocational qualifications.
• Encourage learners to develop confidence, independence and employability skills.
• Maintain accurate records of learner progress and achievement.
• Promote high standards of health and safety in workshops.
• Create a positive, inclusive learning environment.
• Work collaboratively with education and prison staff to support progression.
