Job Description:

Location: HMP Ashfield, Bristol

Working hours: Full-Time, hours per week / Part-Time hours available upon request.

As the Operational Support Officer, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Reporting directly to the Custodial Operations Manager and carrying out duties as assigned.
  • Monitoring CCTV and radio systems, alerting staff when alarms are raised, and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Conducting routine net test calls and cell call checks.
  • Managing access in the Gatehouse, including searching vehicles and staff when required.
  • Assisting with vehicle escorts around the establishment.
  • Allocating BWVC and managing equipment.
  • Supporting the Command suite if needed.
  • Participating in exercises and contingency planning.
  • Performing any other OSO-related duties.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Minimum GCSE Maths & English grade C or above, or equivalent. Good IT skills.
  • Knowledge of security procedures. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Good communication skills with external agencies.
  • Experience in a secure environment or with similar client groups is desirable but not mandatory.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Organizational and analytical skills.
  • Team player with flexibility, interpersonal skills, and the ability to liaise effectively with visitors, staff, and prisoners.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to monitor and audit processes.
  • Report writing skills; numeracy skills for interpreting and presenting statistics.
  • Trustworthiness and discretion when handling sensitive information.
  • Full driving license.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including nights.
