Job summary

HCRG Care Group is seeking an experienced Psychiatrist to join our Mental Health Team at HMP Chelmsford. You will assess and treat adults with complex mental health needs in a secure prison environment, working within a multidisciplinary team on-site.

The role offers part-time hours with opportunities for clinical leadership, ongoing professional development, and a focus on delivering high standards of care in line with NICE guidance.

Qualifications

• GMC-registered medical professional required for Royal College practice.
• Specialist Register in General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry essential.
• AC status and MHA Section 12(2) approval preferred.
• Experience working in secure settings is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, patient-centred psychiatric care within a secure prison environment.
• Lead safe prescribing and participate in MDT discussions.
• Contribute to service development and clinical leadership, aligning with NICE guidance.
• Collaborate with prison staff and external partners to ensure coordinated care.

Education

GMC-registered medical professional

Specialist Register in General Adult Psychiatry or Forensic Psychiatry

Approved Clinician (AC) status

Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
