Job summary
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is seeking an experienced Psychiatrist to join the Mental Health Team at HMP Chelmsford. Based on site, you will deliver patient-centred psychiatric care in a secure environment, lead prescribing decisions, and contribute to service development.
You will work within an MDT, ensuring NICE-guideline compliant treatment while collaborating with prison staff and external partners to support vulnerable populations.
Qualifications
- GMC registered medical professional
- On the Specialist Register in General Adult Psychiatry or Forensic Psychiatry
- Approved Clinician (AC) status
- Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
- Strong understanding of multidisciplinary and multiagency working
- Up-to-date knowledge in adult psychiatry and personality disorder
- Awareness of current mental health policy, legislation, and service provision
Responsibilities
- Carry out comprehensive psychiatric and medical assessments for stable and acute needs.
- Lead on safe and effective prescribing within a secure prison setting.
- Contribute to clinical decisions through MDT discussions and NICE-aligned care.
- Support service development and clinical leadership within the team.
- Collaborate with prison staff and external partners to deliver coordinated care.
