Job summary

Ministry of Justice in Hull is offering an Operational Support Grade to help keep a prison running smoothly. Responsibilities

• Gate duties: ensure secure entry/exit of staff, visitors, vehicles; carry out searches; escort staff and contractors.
• Control room: operate prison radio system; monitor CCTV; report suspicious activities.
• Visits: welcome visitors; escort them when needed.
• Correspondence: monitor/log mail; report contraband; preserve evidence where needed.
• Night duties: ensure cell doors are locked; prisoners are accounted for.
• Reception: photograph prisoners; process prisoners' property and parcels.
• Prisoner supervision: sometimes supervise prisoners; exchange clothing and property; escort prisoners with officers.
• Food delivery: walk and collect/deliver food trolleys; use tug vehicle when needed.
• Driving duties: collect mail from sorting office; may involve lifting heavy sacks.
• Phone calls: monitor PIN phone system; log PIN requests; complete records.
• Procedures and protocol: understand and conform to national/local policies; respond to incidents and emergencies.
