Job Introduction

Sodexo is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Caseworker - Offender Management Unitto work at HMP YOI Bronzefield.

The role is focused on protecting the public, enhancing the safety and wellbeing of women in custody, and contributing to the security and good order of the prison. Key responsibilities include assessing individuals' risk of reoffending and harm, as well as case managing residents to support their resettlement and rehabilitation. This involves preparing residents for release by providing motivation, assistance, and addressing resettlement needs in collaboration with internal teams and external agencies, such as the National Probation Service. The position requires operating within legislative and policy frameworks to ensure a high standard of service delivery.

Main Responsibilities

  • Completing Part 1 of the Basic Custody Screening Tool (BCST).
  • Managing a caseload of women in custody, providing regular support to achieve their sentence plan goals.
  • Conducting risk assessments (e.g., OASys, Sentence Planning, and Risk Management).
  • Collaborating with agencies to address concerns, particularly for those at risk of domestic abuse or involved in sex work.
  • Referring individuals to rehabilitation programmes and supporting processes like HDC, ROTL, and Parole.
  • Preparing reports, attending meetings, and promoting positive behaviour.
  • Maintaining accurate records on systems (NOMIS, CMS) and adhering to policies and legislation.
  • Engaging in one-to-one supervision and completing necessary training.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Strong ability to build professional, positive relationships with prisoners, staff, and partner agencies.
  • Skilled in analysing information, identifying behaviour patterns, assessing risks, and making well-founded decisions.
  • Knowledge of the 9 Pathways to Reducing Reoffending for women.
  • Non-judgemental approach to understanding the challenges women in custody face and their resettlement needs.
  • Able to manage aggressive behaviour professionally.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, and maintain high standards.
  • Effective team player who can also work independently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable

  • Experience in a custodial setting or working with offenders in the community (paid or voluntary), such as in approved premises, prison services, victim support, youth offending teams, or restorative justice
  • Skilled in managing challenging behaviour
  • Understanding of the criminal justice system, including public protection
  • Experience with housing issues and related training
  • Proficient in risk assessment and management
  • Awareness of ongoing Transforming Rehabilitation changes in probation and prison services
  • Degree in a relevant field (e.g., criminology, sociology, psychology) or equivalent vocational qualification

Package Description

Salary up to £36,808.21 per annum - depending on experience.

Base Salary - £33,078.97 +LW £3,729.24

Working Hours - 37.50 hours (Regular Monday - Friday pattern)
