Job summary

Essex County Council is recruiting an annualised hours Prison Library Assistant to support the library service at HMP Chelmsford. This fixed-term, part-time role runs 130 hours across a 12-month contract. Hours are Monday to Thursday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, with actual earnings ranging from £13.46 to £14.84 per hour.

Qualifications

• Experience of working with offenders, or vulnerable people in a professional capacity.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to handle library operations and administer assets.

Responsibilities

• Support the Prison Library Manager to deliver a library service per SLA and related activities.
• Deliver Rhymetimes in the prison library.
• Provide guidance to Prisoner Orderlies on library procedures.
• Handle subject knowledge-based queries and activities.
• Collaborate to improve productivity across processes.
• Understand customer needs and resolve enquiries promptly.
• Collate information from diverse sources to resolve enquiries quickly.
