Job summary

The Ministry of Justice in the United Kingdom is recruiting for a catering role within a prison kitchen. You will apply catering qualifications to run a professional industrial kitchen, oversee offenders, and prepare nutritious meals for the establishment, while supporting learning and qualification attainment.

This 37‑hour week role includes a 20% unsocial hours uplift, a Civil Service pension, and flexible working options where possible.

Qualifications

• Level 2 certificate in food production within hospitality and catering or equivalent.
• Food hygiene Level 2 and Level 3 certificates.
• Working towards Level 3 or NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds 7061/7062.
• Familiar with current health, safety and hygiene regulations for working in a kitchen.
• Able to demonstrate competency within an industrial kitchen environment and demonstrate team leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the work of offenders to prepare and cook nutritious meals for the entire prison.
• Lead and supervise kitchen staff in a high‑volume industrial kitchen.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety and hygiene regulations.
• Support learners to gain qualifications and develop skills to reduce reoffending.
