Job summary

Practice Plus Group’s Health in Justice team at HMP Garth is seeking a Healthcare Assistant to join the primary care team. This full-time role, based in a secure prison environment, offers training in venepuncture, ECGs and wound care, while delivering compassionate patient care and working with a multidisciplinary team.

Salary £25,557 - £29,723 per annum with a 37.5 hour week and a rolling eight-week rota. Flexible hours include evenings and night shifts where applicable.

Qualifications

• Previous care experience (community, hospital, or similar healthcare setting)
• Care Certificate and/or NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care
• Clinical skills such as bloods (venepuncture) are desirable but not essential
• A resilient, proactive, and enthusiastic approach to patient care
• Ability to work effectively in a secure and fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

• Running and supporting healthcare clinics (bloods, observations, ECGs, NHS Health Checks)
• Working in reception (Early Days in Custody), carrying out basic health assessments and blood‑borne virus screening
• Supporting health promotion and wellbeing initiatives
• Acting as pharmacy second checker and assisting with medication rounds
• Working collaboratively with nurses, GPs, and wider healthcare professionals
