Job summary

Ministry of Justice is recruiting for a Prison officer role at HMP Preston. The work involves protecting the public, building constructive relationships with prisoners and performing duties as peacekeeper, counsellor or teacher.

Shifts include evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays, typically across a 39-hour week. Applicants must meet Civil Service nationality rules and have the right to work in the UK, plus pass medical and DBS checks.

Qualifications

• Aged 18 or over.
• Meet Civil Service nationality requirements.
• Pass a medical and fitness assessment.
• Meet eyesight and hearing standards.
• Enhanced DBS check.
• Legal right to live and work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Protect the public and keep the prison safe.
• Build constructive, positive relationships with prisoners.
• Work as one team to keep the prison and everyone in it safe.
• Carry out roles such as peacekeeper, counsellor or teacher.
• Work directly with prisoners to make a positive impact on their lives.
• Cover shifts including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
• Take additional paid hours where available.
