Job Description

Buddy Co-ordinator Position

Monday – Thursday (30 hours weekly with some early starts)

Starting Salary: £26,578.50 per annum pro rata

Based at HMP Wymott, Leyland, Lancashire and HMP Kirkham.

My client has been supporting and delivering services to help the older offender population both in prisons and the community for over fifteen years. They are pleased to advertise for a Buddy Co-ordinator working at both HMP Wymott and HMP Kirkham.

Applicants should ideally have a driving licence and their own vehicle; mileage between the two prisons will be paid.

The role involves setting up, implementing, and coordinating the training, supervision, and management of the Buddy Support programme, which trains prisoners to support other prisoners with health and social care needs. This is an exciting new contract working in partnership with Lancashire County Council and HMPPS.

Relevant Information

The mission is to promote the care, resettlement, and rehabilitation of older offenders and ex-offenders. The organization aims to be a leader in delivering knowledge and expertise to older people involved with the criminal justice system, supporters, and staff. They prioritize the views of those they serve to guide service development.

They are one of the few organizations dedicated to supporting this specific population. Their services, including the Buddy peer support service, have been recognized as good practice by HMIP, IMBs, and HMPPS. As a registered charity with a national footprint, they work to empower older people within the criminal justice system to take control of their lives, improve their physical and mental health, and prevent re-offending.

The successful candidates will have experience working with vulnerable people, individuals in the criminal justice system, or in social care/mental health settings. Experience in service setup, along with strong administrative and communication skills, is desirable. Candidates will be subject to DBS checks and prison security vetting.
