Job summary

The Ministry of Justice seeks a supervisor for a specialist printing workshop to mentor prisoners and provide training that improves employment prospects on release. The role includes inducting prisoners, ensuring COSHH compliance and maintaining equipment safety, while supporting disciplinary and reporting processes.

Candidates should have experience in factory/workshop environments and be able to teach towards national qualifications within a secure prison setting.

• Experience in a factory/workshop environment.

• Experience in a printing workshop is essential.
• Demonstrates professional conduct in a prison environment and supports safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision, knowledge and skills to prisoners in the printing workshop to improve employment prospects.
• Induct prisoners into the workshop/area and ensure safe operation of equipment.
• Manage COSHH rules, machinery and tool usage.
• Explain employment commitments and consequences to prisoners.
• Supervise prisoners and maintain discipline in the workshop/area.
• Maintain radio communications in line with Local Security Strategy (LSS).
• Assist in prisoner reports including parole and sentence planning.

Job description

The job holder is responsible for providing supervision, knowledge and skills to prisoners in a specialist printing workshop, so they can improve employment prospects on release with a view to reducing reoffending. Training on equipment will be provided. The role will require teaching prisoners working towards national recognised qualifications., The job holder will be required to carry out the following:

• A whole prison approach towards a safe, secure and respectful environment.


• Induction to prisoners in the workshop/area.


• Control of Substance Hazardous to health (COSHH), machinery and tools usage.


• Delivering and understanding of consequences of employment compact for prisoners.


• Supervise prisoners and maintain discipline in the workshop/area.


• Maintain regular communications via radio net in accordance with Local Security Strategy (LSS).


• Contribute to prisoner report including parole and sentence planning.

The job holder will provide prisoners with work experience in the print workshop that mirrors the employment experience outside the prison. The job holder will have had experience in a factory/workshop environment demonstrated on their CV.

Desirable Skills
