Job Description

AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA is seeking an experienced capital project engineer to be part of the Project Engineering group. The selected candidate will be responsible for managing and executing capital projects involving construction and renovation of biopharmaceutical manufacturing space, R&D laboratories, and office space. Responsibilities include:

  1. Acting as Subject Matter Expert in renovation, new construction, and installation of facility-related equipment.
  2. Managing capital projects throughout their lifecycle, including scope, scheduling, budgeting, and coordination.
  3. Developing scopes, specifications, estimates, and standards for facility projects.
  4. Participating in design efforts by identifying scope, gathering user requirements, and commenting on design packages.
  5. Overseeing implementation schedules and ensuring project completion within deadlines.
  6. Delivering project status reports to stakeholders.
  7. Managing procurement processes for project equipment and labor.
  8. Overseeing mechanical design, vendor submittals, and FAT/SAT protocols.
  9. Reviewing project submittals and RFIs to ensure compliance with standards.
  10. Interacting with city inspectors and contractors.
  11. Overseeing on-site contractors, scheduling, safety permits, and safety evaluations.
  12. Supporting startup activities, including commissioning, troubleshooting, and validation support.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, science, or related discipline; 8+ years of experience preferred.
  • Background in construction management, utility, process, and equipment for biopharmaceutical facilities and R&D labs.
  • Knowledge of building, architectural, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and fire codes.
  • Effective multitasking, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Construction management training is a plus; PMP certification advantageous.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs and navigate pipe racks/ladders.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Teamwork, leadership, integrity, reliability, and adaptability.
