Job description

The Opportunity
We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our growing MEP team in Manchester. This role offers the chance to lead on exciting projects across residential, healthcare, education, regeneration, and commercial sectors, working as part of a collaborative, multi–disciplinary team.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical and public health building services design on projects, managing electrical engineers and specialists where required.

  • Deliver detailed designs, reports, drawings, and specifications across all RIBA stages.

  • Supervise, mentor, and support junior engineers and apprentices.

  • Carry out design calculations using software such as Hevacomp and IES.

  • Use CAD/BIM (Revit) to develop and coordinate building systems.

  • Conduct QA reviews to ensure designs meet regulations, client requirements, and industry standards.

  • Advise clients on energy efficiency, sustainability, and reducing carbon emissions.

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, actively engaging with stakeholders.

  • Liaise with architects, surveyors, structural engineers, and contractors.

  • Ensure compliance with legislation, health & safety, and best practice.

Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience in mechanical and public health building services design (consultancy or contractor background).

  • Relevant degree/HND/HNC in Building Services or Mechanical Engineering.

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.

  • Excellent technical knowledge and attention to detail.

  • Strong communication and client–facing skills.

  • Ability to lead teams and deliver high–quality results.
