Job Description

This role involves designing, specifying, and approving marine electrical equipment for naval customers. Duties include creating detailed technical specifications, drawings, and test procedures for electrical/control systems, in accordance with contract specifications and company procedures.

Responsibilities:

1. Prepare electrical schematics and block cable diagrams using 2D CAD systems and specialist electrical design software (e.g., Auto-CAD Electrical, EPLAN, WSCAD).
2. Prepare and maintain technical specifications, commissioning, and system test procedures for marine electrical equipment.
3. Provide technical support to internal and external customers as required.
4. Assist in reviewing, coordinating, and approving technical documentation from suppliers and customers.
5. Support tender activities including estimating, specification development, and bid compliance review.
6. Carry out electrical calculations related to equipment sizing, harmonic emissions, and arc flash safety assessments.
7. Review the configuration of motor variable speed drive control systems.
8. Identify and develop R&D and Continuous Improvement opportunities.
9. Work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team, using own initiative.
10. Investigate product safety and technical problems using structured problem-solving techniques.
11. Manage supplier interfaces and approve test results.
12. Perform other technical tasks as needed to meet business needs.

Job Requirements:

• B.Eng./B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering/Control Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Competent in using recognized electrical CAD packages (AutoCAD, EPLAN).
• Experience in creating control panel layout drawings and Bills of Materials.
• Good understanding of electrical and mechanical principles, especially in marine or related industries.
• Experience working in highly regulated industries.
• Proven track record in delivering technical projects on time, within scope and budget.
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Experience collaborating with suppliers, customers, and field teams.
• Ability to build relationships and work effectively with diverse teams.
• Professional conduct and adherence to company policies.
• Participation in business improvement activities.

Functional/Technical Competencies:

• Knowledge of AC induction and PM motor control systems and variable speed drive technologies.
• Understanding of EMC and harmonic emission control practices.
• Familiarity with design verification and validation processes.
• Basic knowledge of electrical equipment reliability and safety mechanisms, using FMECA, HAZOP, and ARM tools.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Experience with 2D CAD systems and configuration control using data management systems.
• Understanding of engineering change and version control processes.
