Job description

Principle Design Engineer

  • 40 Hours per week & hybrid working

Our customer, based in Wythenshawe, are experts in the aviation industry and on their behalf, we are recruiting for an experienced Design Engineer.

The Job

  1. Designing and developing technical parts and products using SolidWorks.
  2. Conducting cross-functional design reviews where required.
  3. Generating technical drawings in accordance with BS8888 and internal standards.
  4. Technical leadership of aircraft cabin projects.
  5. Overseeing work through the business workflow and into full-scale production.
  6. Processing drawing change requests in accordance with change management procedure.
  7. Reverse engineering components for product improvements or changes.
  8. Supporting and working closely with other departments of the business and suppliers.
  9. Creating documentation to support the design and certification of projects.
  10. Operating CMM and handheld 3D metrology equipment.
  11. Supporting objectives set by the Design Office Manager and by the business.
  12. Supporting and instructing project team members.

About You

  1. Minimum Degree level, or equivalent experience (7+ years) in engineering-related field.
  2. Extensive experience of creating complex parts and assemblies using SolidWorks.
  3. Extensive experience of creating basic 2D models and drawings in AutoCAD or similar.
  4. Extensive experience in generating high quality technical drawings to an internationally recognised standard, including the application of GD&T.
  5. Must demonstrate understanding of Design for Manufacture (DfM) of products with a broad range of production intent, including injection moulding; vac forming; sheet metal; machining; and composites.
  6. Proven experience of checking drawings from other engineers.
  7. Demonstrated ability to find solutions to complex problems.
  8. Experience of PDM vaulting system.
  9. Experience of Autodesk PowerShape an advantage.
  10. Stress calculation experience an advantage.
