Job summary

Gold Group seeks a Principal Safety Engineer to drive safety engineering for complex weapons programmes in the UK Defence sector. Based in Bristol with a hybrid pattern (onsite roughly one day every two weeks), you will shape safety strategy and lead hazard analyses across the lifecycle.

You will develop and defend safety arguments, produce comprehensive safety case reports, and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with customers and internal teams to ensure ALARP outcomes.

Qualifications

• Minimum ~10+ years of safety engineering experience in defence or safety-critical environments.
• Proven track record developing SMS, SMPs and Safety Case Reports.
• Strong capability in hazard log creation, structure, and assurance.
• Practical experience carrying out FHA and Physical Hazard Analysis.
• Ability to engage stakeholders and lead technical packages.

Responsibilities

• Lead Safety Delivery: define and implement SMS/SMPs for complex weapons programmes.
• Develop Safety Case Reports and supporting evidence to show risks are ALARP.
• Own hazard log creation, structure, and traceability from hazards to controls.
• Influence design and trials by integrating safety into engineering decisions.
• Provide technical leadership, conduct peer reviews, and mentor engineers.
