Job Description:

As we move into AMP 8 and continue with our growth plans across the UK & Ireland, we're interested in hearing expressions of interest from Water Resource Consultants seeking their next career opportunity in the coming weeks and months.

Find your focus, grow with us, and be part of the solution to water challenges. How will you make a difference?

Recognize the vital role water plays in health, environment, and economy? Aware of challenges in providing water amid climate change, sustainability standards, and population growth? If you want to be part of a team at the forefront of building resilient and sustainable water supply systems for the UK and internationally, we want to hear from you!

Stantec is a top-tier global consultancy named the ‘Best Place to Work’ at the 2024 NCE Awards. We are known for innovative water supply solutions and environmental/regulatory services for public and private clients in the UK. With ambitious growth targets in water resources planning, we seek experienced professionals with 5-10 years in the water industry to play key roles in delivering our projects.

Opportunities are available to join our water resources planning team at locations across the UK, including Birmingham, Redditch, High Wycombe, Reading, and Shrewsbury, with potential for other locations and international collaboration.

About this opportunity

This is an exciting time for water resources in the UK, with significant investments in infrastructure, including £4 billion for water supply and £2 billion for nature-based solutions for 2025-30. These investments aim to ensure long-term resilience, security of supply, and demand reduction through leakage control and smart metering.

Our water resources planning team has grown significantly since 2020, working on strategic investigations, water resource management plans, drought plans, and more, supporting water companies in their AMP8 schemes and future planning.

As a senior team member, you will:

  • Manage full project lifecycles from inception to handover, ensuring compliance with scope, budget, schedule, quality, and regulations. Lead and mentor less experienced team members.
  • Bring expertise in WRMPs, regional plans, drought plans, water resource models, demand management, options development, regulatory assessments, and SRO development.
  • Support wider team efforts, collaborate across projects, and leverage networks for project success.
  • Manage commercial aspects of projects, bids, and proposals, providing strategic input for AMP8.
About you

We welcome applicants from regulatory, water utility, or consultancy backgrounds with recent experience in policy and technical water resources areas. You should be comfortable working in fast-paced, multidisciplinary teams and engaging with clients and authorities. Prior involvement in WRMPs, regional plans, SROs, or drought plans is preferred.

We are looking for:

  • Extensive experience in developing and assessing WRMPs, drought plans, regional plans, water demand, and risk assessments.
  • Experience with WINEP investigations, environmental assessments, licensing, catchment management, climate impact studies, and options appraisal.
  • Knowledge of UK water resources regulatory requirements and guidelines.
  • Project management skills, including managing large teams and complex projects.
  • Strong client relationship skills.
  • A relevant degree and preferably a postgraduate qualification in hydrology, hydrogeology, or water resources management, with active professional memberships.
