The Water Consultancy Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to water and wastewater challenges, offering opportunities to get involved in diverse and technically challenging work. Overview of role

As a Principal Pipeline Engineer, specializing in intakes and outfalls, you will be a key part of our multidisciplinary team, delivering projects in partnership with clients and contractors. You will lead the technical design of solutions addressing leakage, water provision, and sewage disposal across water networks.

Responsibilities include:

1. Providing guidance and technical leadership across projects from feasibility to construction support.
2. Leading wastewater and potable water pipeline schemes to meet budget, schedule, and quality standards.
3. Developing engineering solutions for pipelines, offshore intake designs, outfalls, and diffusers.
4. Managing design risks to ensure constructability.
5. Producing and reviewing calculations, specifications, drawings, and reports.
6. Supporting procedural improvements and digital engineering initiatives.
7. Leading and developing a team of design staff.
8. Engaging with clients and stakeholders to maintain positive relationships.
9. Collaborating across disciplines for efficient project delivery.
10. Contributing to commercial success through forecasting, risk management, and proposals.

Candidate specification

Required:

• Chartered or Incorporated Civil Engineer
• Significant experience in water pipeline design and infrastructure
• Knowledge of pipeline materials, corrosion protection, structural design, offshore intake, and diffuser designs
• Experience with offshore hydrodynamic assessment and pipeline stability analysis
• Familiarity with trenchless installation and pipeline assessment techniques
• Proven leadership in technical projects and staff development
• UK water infrastructure experience
• Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams
• Understanding of CDM responsibilities
• Proactive, adaptable, and collaborative communication skills

Desirable:

• Experience with offshore codes (Dnv, BS PD 8010)
• Willingness to travel
• Knowledge of pipeline commissioning and survey techniques
