Job description

An opportunity has arisen in the Complex Warhead Centre of Excellence (CW CofEx) for a Principal Warhead Engineer working on varied and complex programmes, in multi-disciplined teams, on warhead research, design development and manufacture for MBDA's missile programmes.

Salary: Up to £57,000 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 3 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

Within this role you'll be working with specialists in design, trials, modelling & simulation, explosives, lethality and systems engineering. There is huge scope to develop your existing skills and experience within this role.

As a Principal Warhead Engineer you'll be responsible for delivering varied and complex tasks throughout the lifecycle of MBDA UK's Missile Programmes, and early lifecycle research & development for UK MoD and as part of the company's IRAD portfolio.

MBDA UK works closely with its supply chain for many activities including co-development, manufacture, trials & test, and specialist simulation tools. Suppliers and partners include major industrial, SMEs, academia and government agencies.

You'll be working closely with suppliers and partners in the Munitions and Explosives domain, building effective working relationships to ensure successful completion and delivery. Working in accordance with company procedures and in an organised, structured and transparent way to ensure delegated tasks are delivered safely and to time, cost and quality.

As part of the role you would be expected to travel within the UK and occasional travel to Europe.

What we're looking for from you:

Essential:

• HND/Degree/Higher Degree qualified in an engineering or science based subject relevant to the role or demonstrable equivalent experience
• Good problem solving skills coupled with a sound fundamental knowledge of general engineering principles
• Experience and expertise in at least one branch of Munitions and Explosives engineering.
• IT Competence including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Awareness of proving and qualification activities to deliver test evidence to support compliance against requirements
• Ability to demonstrate integrity when conducting a trial to ensure safety is the primary focus
• Determined individuals that are self-motivated and can demonstrate effective interpersonal skills
• Methodical and logical approach, conscientious and safety conscious in all activities
• Be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
• Strong technical writing skills, document suite management skills etc.

Desirable

• Demonstrable experience leading or working as a team in the delivery of projects or trials
• Previous experience working with energetic materials
• Previous experience in domains of munition and explosives engineering such as; performance, safety and environmental trials of munitions, explosives testing, modelling and simulation, design and manufacture, systems engineering.
• Previous experience using equipment and tools relevant to the munitions and explosives domain, such as high speed instrumentation, mechanical, polymer & explosive laboratory equipment, hydrocodes, explosives test equipment, data analysis, CAD.
