Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Principal Urban Drainage Modeller to lead complex urban drainage and wastewater modelling projects from Newcastle or Leeds. You will direct technical outputs, governance and client engagement, shaping solutions for UK frameworks.

You will mentor teams, develop digital tools and contribute to AMP delivery, with emphasis on high-quality, data-driven modelling and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Principal Urban Drainage Modeller to join our growing wastewater modelling team in Newcastle or Leeds. This is an exciting opportunity to work on major UK and Ireland programmes at the forefront of AMP delivery, helping shape how the industry responds to challenges in water quality, urban flooding and environmental performance. About The Role

As a Principal Urban Drainage Modeller, you will lead the delivery of complex urban drainage and wastewater modelling projects, providing technical direction and ensuring high standards of quality and consistency across all outputs.

You Will

• Lead and oversee the delivery of urban drainage and wastewater modelling projects across major UK frameworks.
• Develop and apply advanced hydraulic models to assess flood risk, optimise drainage systems and support sustainable development.
• Provide technical governance, review and sign-off of modelling outputs.
• Support project planning, coordination and delivery across multidisciplinary teams.
• Lead and mentor engineers and modellers, supporting their technical and professional development.
• Contribute to client engagement, technical discussions and long-term solution development.

ABOUT YOU Essential

• Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Geography or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience in urban drainage or wastewater modelling.
• Strong technical expertise in InfoWorks ICM.
• Proven experience leading projects and providing technical direction.
• Experience managing, mentoring and developing technical teams.
• Strong communication, report writing and presentation skills.
• Experience working on regulated water industry projects or frameworks.
• Membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g. ICE or CIWEM).

Desirable

• Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartership.
• Experience with digital modelling tools, automation or data-driven solutions.
• Experience working across multidisciplinary or multi-office teams.
